The reopening of the world-famous Design Museum in its stunning new home in Kensington, west London calls for celebration. Anglepoise has teamed up with Penguin to offer their striking new 'Design Museum in a Box' postcard set absolutely free* – their gift to you with every online purchase of an Original 1227™ desk lamp and Original 1227™ Brass desk lamp.
Launched just one month ago and worth £14.99, these highly covetable boxed postcard sets celebrate 100 of the Design Museum's most prized exhibits, ranging from buildings to gadgets, furniture and installations, and including of course an early version of Anglepoise's trusty Original 1227™ desk lamp launched in the 1930's.
When the Design Museum opened its doors to the public on 24th November 2016, the remarkable transformation of this unique landmark 1960's Grade 11 building under the design direction of John Pawson was revealed. An impressive £83 million, largely raised through private donations, has been poured into the building's re-modelling, rightly positioning the Design Museum as the world's leading museum of contemporary design and architecture. Described by The Times architecture correspondent Jonathan Morrison as 'a triumph of restrained elegance' the building alone promises not to disappoint.
What's more, for the first time in the museum's history, visitors can visit the museum to view its permanent collection for free: Designer Maker User tells the story of contemporary design though these three interconnecting roles. Here's where you'll find many of the world's most popular and affordable consumer goods featured in the Museum in a Box postcard set –such as an early Anglepoise® Original 1227™ desk lamp, the first Apple computer, Ettore Sottsass and Perry King's Valentine typewriter for Olivetti and the Vespa Clubman designed by Corradino d'Ascanio and made by Piaggio.
And when you visit, don't forget to pop in to the Design Museum shop where you'll find a range of Anglepoise® desk lamps to buy including all three Anglepoise® + Paul Smith Editions.
